REFRIGERATION PLANT

A robust industrial refrigeration system is essential for any ice rink, operating continuously throughout the year. Ice Tech UK understands the importance of these systems in maintaining optimal ice conditions.

Whether you’re building new or upgrading, our 20 years of experience and work on a third of the UK’s permanent rinks ensure you’re in capable hands.

Key Features

Continuous 24/7 operation
Our industrial refrigeration systems are designed to run continuously, maintaining optimal ice quality around the clock and in all seasons, critical for reliable rink performance.
Energy efficient
Featuring energy-efficient refrigerants and integrated heat-recovery capabilities, these systems cut operational costs and minimise environmental impact while sustaining optimal performance.
Professional grade ice quality
Engineered to deliver a smooth, high performance surface for all skating disciplines, ensuring the rink meets professional standards of quality.
Adaptable design
Refrigeration systems are configurable to suit the specifics of each rink, taking into account capital availability, energy costs, refrigerant choice, plant location, and heat‑recovery needs.

InDoor arenas

Ice Tech UK supplies high-performance refrigeration systems, specifically designed for multi-purpose indoor arenas. We approach every arena project on a case-by-case basis, delivering customised systems that ensure reliable, round-the-clock ice performance while integrating seamlessly with wider building requirements.

Whether you’re planning a new installation or upgrading an existing plant, we work with trusted manufacturing partners to provide a tailored, high-quality solution that reflects your energy use, location, and long-term goals.

Outdoor plant

Outdoor rink refrigeration systems must contend with highly variable ambient conditions while still delivering consistent, high-performance ice. We treat every outdoor installation as a unique challenge, tailoring each plant to suit the site location, and intended usage.

As with all our projects, we design on a case-by-case basis to meet your budget, energy profile, and long-term operational priorities.

Temporary Rental Solutions

Occasionally, things don’t go as planned, and temporary refrigeration systems are needed to keep rink operations running smoothly. Whether due to sudden failure of outdated equipment, planned replacement work, major events requiring backup, or short-term installations for new or temporary rinks, we offer a wide range of rental solutions tailored to the situation.

We also offer rental of packaged chillers, cooling floors, dasher boards, power generators, electrical distribution systems, ice resurfacing machines and ice skate rentals. These temporary systems ensure arenas remain fully functional when unexpected maintenance issues arise.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an ice rink refrigeration system do?
An industrial ice rink refrigeration system is responsible for maintaining consistent sub-zero temperatures in the ice floor, ensuring optimal conditions for skating activities. These systems run continuously, 365 days a year, and are designed to deliver stable, high-quality ice regardless of the skating discipline or level of use.
Selecting the right system involves assessing a number of variables. These include available capital, energy costs, refrigerant type, the physical location of the ice plant, potential for heat recovery, and long-term sustainability goals.
Yes. With experience delivering over a third of the permanent ice rink refrigeration installations across the UK, we work nationwide and collaborate with leading manufacturing partners to ensure every system meets the highest standards.
Whilst employed by Ice Tech UK, The Refrigeration Project of the Year Award was won by G&O Refrigeration and BITZER. Ice Tech UK supported the development and rollout of the award winning GORAC chiller system across several projects, which has delivered energy savings of up to 40–50% in UK ice rinks.
In 2023, Ice Tech UK partnered with G&O Refrigeration to deliver the cooling plant at Lee Valley Ice Centre. The system uses four Gorac chillers and a fully integrated heat recovery setup that uses almost 100% of the recovered heat from the cooling process elsewhere in the building.
