Nottingham Winter Wonderland is one of the UK’s largest Christmas events, located in the heart of Old Market Square. Every year, it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors who come to enjoy the festive atmosphere. The event features a large outdoor ice rink, a traditional Christmas market, food and drink outlets, live entertainment, and a variety of seasonal attractions.
At the heart of the event is the Sky Skate Ice Rink, one of Winter Wonderland’s most popular attractions. It welcomes families, schools, corporate groups, and visitors of all ages throughout the festive season, offering a unique skating experience in the centre of Nottingham.
Technical Overview
The project featured three separate ice attractions, each designed to suit different ages and skating abilities.
Family Rink – Approximately 280 m², providing a spacious recreational skating area for families and the general public.
Kids’ Rink – Approximately 234 m², designed exclusively for children under 12 and equipped with skate aids to create a safe, enjoyable, and accessible skating environment.
Sky Skate – Approximately 630 m², featuring a spectacular elevated skating trail measuring over 200 metres in length. Rising to 4.8 metres above ground level, the route passed through the legs of the Giant Observation Wheel, creating a unique and memorable skating experience.
Together, the three attractions delivered almost 1,150 m² of ice, creating a diverse skating experience for visitors of all ages. As a result, the event successfully accommodated large visitor numbers throughout the festive season while offering something for everyone.
